The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has reaffirmed that the general security situation across the country remains “calm, quiet, and normal,” following intensified operations aimed at curbing drug trafficking, smuggling, and other criminal activities.

Speaking at a press briefing held at Police Headquarters, KingtomAssistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh assured citizens that the police continue to maintain a robust presence nationwide through both day and night patrols.

“Our teams have been consistent in ensuring visibility, maintaining order, and safeguarding public peace. The situation across the country remains calm and normal,” AIG Kanneh stated.

He disclosed that several arrests were made between October 24th and 29th, 2025, following a series of intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks. He provided a summary of the key incidents:

  • October 24: A patrol team led by Sergeant 10968 Ramon intercepted a suspect, Fase Kamara, during a night patrol. The matter remains under investigation.
  • October 26: Officers at Eastern Police Division responded to a report concerning an unidentified deceased male discovered in the Noosabian area. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
  • October 29: A joint operation led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sappho in the Calbaton community resulted in the arrest of a suspect found in possession of 560 grams of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
  • In a separate operation at Little Mortar Street, police recovered 4,500 grams of suspected cannabis and €50,800 in cash. The suspect, Winisaka Koma, has been arrested and is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.

AIG Kanneh further noted that the police also intervened to avert an industrial strike at the Sierra Leone Ports Authority (SLPA) after workers raised concerns regarding their working conditions.

“We swiftly engaged both the management and the workers in dialogue, and I am pleased to report that the situation was peacefully resolved,” he confirmed.

The police hierarchy has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while intensifying efforts to dismantle drug and criminal networks across the country.

AIG Kanneh concluded by urging the public to continue cooperating with the police and to promptly report suspicious activities, as collective vigilance remains key to sustaining national peace and security.
