Monrovia, SLP Liberia security cooperation -The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Honourable Gregory O. W. Coleman, on Monday, 1st December 2025, formally received a high-level delegation from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) at the LNP Headquarters in Monrovia. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in combating transnational organised crime within the Mano River Union (MRU) Basin.
In his welcome remarks, IGP Coleman stressed the growing importance of sustained regional collaboration among security agencies, noting that evolving threats such as terrorism and organised criminal networks continue to exploit vulnerabilities across West Africa. He underscored that close coordination between neighbouring states is crucial to addressing these shared challenges.

IGP Coleman recalled earlier engagements held in Sierra Leone, during which he and Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, briefed His Excellency Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio on the proposal to establish a Police Chiefs’ Committee within the MRU. He described the current visit as a clear expression of both countries’ commitment to operationalise the jointly signed communiqué aimed at strengthening border security and intelligence-sharing.
Extending fraternal greetings to the Chairman of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), IGP Sellu, the Liberian Police Chief encouraged his senior management team to engage fully with their SLP counterparts. He noted that Liberia is in the process of developing a four-year strategic policing plan and stands to benefit from Sierra Leone’s recent experience transitioning from a “force” to a “service”. Symbolically, he remarked that the SLP delegation had been given “the key to Monrovia”, signalling Liberia’s readiness for deeper and more purposeful collaboration.

Responding on behalf of the Sierra Leone delegation, AIG Dr. John Martin Senesie reaffirmed the SLP’s unwavering commitment to the joint communiqué. He stated that the visit reflects the shared resolve of both Police Chiefs to advance coordinated border patrols and reinforce security cooperation across the MRU. He added that the longstanding historical ties between Sierra Leone and Liberia make such collaboration both strategic and natural.
Additional remarks were delivered by AIG Brima Kanneh and AIG Andrew Mustapha Kamara, who highlighted the value of shared learning, operational synergy, and professional exchanges in strengthening security within the two nations.
The engagement continued with a guided tour of key facilities at the LNP Headquarters, including the Operational Control Room, Broadcasting Unit, Formed Police Unit, Traffic Division, and Emergency Response Unit. Senior management officials from both institutions used the opportunity to exchange insights in support of implementing the bilateral security agreement.
The day’s activities concluded with renewed assurances from both sides that cooperation between the Sierra Leone Police and the Liberia National Police will continue to deepen, reinforcing peace, security, and stability within the Mano River Union and the wider ECOWAS region.
