NatCA Reaffirms Commitment to Consumer Protection and Telecom Service Excellence in Sierra Leone

By Moses Kay Fembeh

The National Telecommunications Authority (NatCA), Sierra Leone’s official regulator for telecommunications and mobile network operations, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer rights, enhancing public trust, and promoting high-quality service delivery across the country’s telecom landscape.

Speaking during a recent stakeholder engagement in Freetown, NatCA’s Director General, Mr. Amara Brewah, highlighted the Authority’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that mobile network operators comply with regulatory standards and deliver services that are efficient, reliable, and responsive to the needs of citizens.

“As a regulator, our foremost duty is to the people of Sierra Leone,” Mr. Brewah stated. “The public must not only have access to quality telecom services, but they must also feel protected and respected in the digital space.”

He called on mobile operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to prioritise customer satisfaction, adopt transparent practices in pricing, network coverage, data usage, and customer support, and uphold the highest standards in service delivery. Regulatory compliance, he said, is essential for building a competitive and consumer-centred telecommunications sector.

“Our doors remain open for dialogue,” he continued, “but operators must understand that public trust is earned through performance. We expect nothing less than excellence and accountability.”

NatCA’s leadership also outlined plans to strengthen monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, enforce penalties for poor service delivery, and expand avenues for consumer feedback. According to Mr. Brewah, these initiatives aim to improve transparency, strengthen accountability, and narrow the communication gap between telecom operators and the communities they serve.

With telecommunications serving as a backbone for education, healthcare, commerce, governance, and national development, NatCA’s renewed focus on consumer protection represents a critical step toward deepening digital inclusion and accelerating Sierra Leone’s technological advancement.

Mr. Brewah concluded by calling on all stakeholders to embrace collaboration, innovation, and public-centred service delivery.
“A connected nation is a powerful nation,” he said. “NatCA remains committed to building a telecom sector that delivers for every Sierra Leonean.”
