A 38-year-old man, Richard Briema, has made another appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in Freetown on a charge of robbery with violence, contrary to Section 23(1)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916, as amended by Section 2 of Act No. 16 of 1971.

According to the particulars of the offense, the accused, Richard Briema, on Thursday, 3rd October 2024, at Forestry Quarters, Kenema, allegedly robbed Abdulai Darboh of sixteen thousand United States dollars (US$16,000), equivalent to twenty thousand new Leones (NLe 20,000), and a silver wristwatch, property of the said complainant.

Led in evidence by Police Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Lahai M., the second prosecution witness, Detective Police Constable (DPC) 13878 Paul Blango, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Pademba Road, testified that on 20th October 2024, while on duty, he received a transfer case and inquiry file from Kenema concerning an alleged case of robbery with violence and assault for further investigation.

DPC Blango informed the court that the file contained a medical report from the complainant, which was produced and tendered as Exhibit D. He further testified that the file also included the statements of the complainant and witnesses, as well as the caution statement of the accused person, all of which were presented in court as Exhibits E1–17.

According to the witness, based on the findings of the investigation, he, together with Detective Inspector Hassan Dumbuya and Detective Corporal 10179 T.M. Conteh, charged the accused with robbery with violence and assault. He stated that the accused was cautioned and questioned in Krio by Detective Inspector Dumbuya, and his responses were recorded in English. After the statement was read and explained to him in Krio, the accused affirmed its accuracy by appending his right-hand thumbprint. The document, signed by Detective Inspector Dumbuya as the recorder, was produced and tendered as Exhibits F1–5.

Following the testimony, the prosecution requested a short adjournment to prepare a no-case submission.

Magistrate Jah granted a continuation of bail for the accused and adjourned the matter to 26th November 2025 for further proceedings.
