Negligence Amid Crisis: Life Care Hospital Fails Emergency Patient in Freetown

From Heroes Media Desk

Freetown, 10th November 2025 A deeply troubling incident has unfolded at Life Care Hospital’s Eastern branch, exposing what many have described as an alarming level of negligence and lack of empathy toward patients in critical condition.

According to eyewitnesses, a patient in a serious medical state was referred from the Eastern branch to the hospital’s main facility in Lumley. However, despite Life Care Hospital’s high service charges, the facility could not provide a functioning ambulance for the emergency transfer.

When contacted, the head of the facility admitted that they currently have only one operational ambulance, which at the time was reportedly “at the mechanic for maintenance.” He added that a second ambulance has been ordered and is expected to arrive by the end of the month. However, this raises serious concerns: how many more patients might be neglected in the meantime?

This explanation sparked outrage among bystanders, especially as the patient’s condition worsened and no alternative transportation was urgently arranged.

A relative of the patient shared, “It is painful to watch a loved one in distress while the hospital, which we paid heavily for, stands helpless and indifferent.”

Another former patient also expressed frustration, saying, “They’re always quick to collect fees but slow to respond in emergencies. It’s as if their compassion ends at the cashier’s desk.”

The incident raises pressing questions about the hospital’s preparedness and ethical standards. Many are calling on the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to investigate and ensure stronger accountability and oversight in private healthcare delivery.

As public trust continues to erode, this case stands as a stark reminder: in healthcare, timely action and compassion are not luxuries; they are lifelines.
