Owned and Organized by Heroes Media Group
Celebrating Women of Leadership, Impact and Legacy
The African Matriarch Impact Awards (AMIA) is an award and recognition platform wholly owned and organised by Heroes Media Group, a Pan-African media, publishing and storytelling organisation with its operational footprint in Sierra Leone and a wider African outlook.
AMIA was established to recognise, celebrate, document and preserve the stories of African women whose professional journeys, achievements, service, resilience and contributions have created meaningful value within their institutions, communities and society.
The platform is built on a simple conviction:
“Africa’s women have stories worth preserving.”
Across business, finance, law, public service, government, media, academia, entrepreneurship, development, civil society, healthcare, education, faith, culture and many other fields, African women continue to contribute to the growth and development of their societies.
AMIA exists to give greater visibility to those contributions while creating a lasting record of the women and stories behind them.
About AMIA
The African Matriarch Impact Awards is more than an annual awards ceremony. It is a recognition, documentation and storytelling platform dedicated to celebrating African women and preserving the stories behind their professional achievements and contributions to society.
Many women build distinguished careers, carry significant responsibilities and make meaningful contributions to their institutions and communities without their professional journeys receiving sustained public documentation. Their work may be widely respected within their organisations or professional circles, yet the wider story of how they built their careers, overcame challenges, served others and contributed to society may remain largely untold.
AMIA seeks to help address this gap by bringing those stories into greater public view and preserving them as part of the contemporary African record.
The platform recognises women not simply because of the positions they occupy, but because of the substance of their work, the responsibilities they have carried, the institutions they have served, the communities they have influenced and the legacy they are building through their professional and personal contributions.

The Vision Behind AMIA
The vision of AMIA is to build a respected African platform through which the professional journeys, achievements and contributions of women can be recognised, documented, celebrated and preserved as part of Africa’s evolving social and professional history.
The platform brings together accomplished women from different sectors, professions, backgrounds and generations, creating greater visibility for their work while encouraging meaningful connections among women whose experiences can contribute to one another.
AMIA also seeks to inspire younger African women by providing access to the stories of women who have built careers, assumed responsibility, overcome professional challenges, served institutions, created opportunities and contributed to their communities.
By documenting these experiences, AMIA seeks to make professional achievement more visible and the lessons contained within those journeys more accessible to future generations.
The 2026 Theme
Celebrating Women of Leadership, Impact and Legacy
The 2026 theme reflects three important dimensions of the AMIA platform.
Leadership
AMIA recognises women who have assumed responsibility, guided people or institutions, taken initiative and made meaningful contributions within their professions, organisations and communities.
Impact
The platform acknowledges the value created through professional work, service, innovation, enterprise, advocacy, institutional development and community contribution, recognising that meaningful impact can take many forms and occur at different levels of society.
Legacy
AMIA seeks to preserve the stories, experiences, accomplishments and lessons of accomplished African women so that their contributions remain accessible to those who come after them and form part of a broader record of Africa’s development.
Who AMIA Recognises
AMIA recognises women from diverse professional, institutional and social backgrounds, reflecting the many different ways African women contribute to their societies.
These include women working in:
- Business and corporate sectors
- Banking and financial services
- Law and legal practice
- Government and public service
- Governance and public administration
- Entrepreneurship
- Media and communications
- Academia and education
- Healthcare and medicine
- Development and humanitarian work
- Civil society
- Non-governmental organisations
- Technology and innovation
- Agriculture and enterprise
- Arts, culture and creative industries
- Faith and community service
- Professional associations
- Security and public institutions
- Other fields of significant professional or community contribution
The diversity of the platform reflects the understanding that African women contribute to society in many different ways and that valuable work is not confined to one profession, sector or institution.
A Merit-Based Recognition Platform
The African Matriarch Impact Awards is a merit-based recognition platform and is not determined through public voting.
Nominations and selections are considered by Heroes Media Group with reference to relevant factors such as a nominee’s professional record, responsibilities, achievements, service, contribution and available credible information.
The process is intended to identify women whose work and professional record provide a meaningful basis for recognition.
AMIA is therefore not designed as a popularity contest. It provides an opportunity to recognise women whose work may be significant within their professions, institutions and communities even when they may not have extensive public visibility.
AMIA 2026
The African Matriarch Impact Awards 2026 will be held in Freetown, Sierra Leone, bringing together distinguished women, professionals, institutional representatives and guests from different sectors of Sierra Leonean society and the wider African professional community.
Date: Friday, 27th November 2026
Time: 7:30 p.m. prompt
Venue: YSC Hall, Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone
The evening will combine recognition, storytelling, networking and celebration in an atmosphere dedicated to honouring African women and documenting the significance of their professional and social contributions.
Beyond the Award
An AMIA recognition is intended to represent more than a trophy or a single evening of celebration.
It provides an opportunity to acknowledge a woman’s achievements while creating a platform through which her professional story can be documented and introduced to a wider audience.
Through the media and publishing platforms of Heroes Media Group, stories of recognised women can continue to be profiled, shared and preserved beyond the awards ceremony.
This creates a lasting connection between recognition and documentation.
The Importance of Documentation
Africa has countless accomplished women whose stories deserve to be documented while they are still actively contributing to their professions, institutions and communities.
They include the banker helping to build stronger financial institutions, the lawyer advancing her profession, the public servant strengthening an institution, the entrepreneur creating opportunities, the doctor serving patients, the educator shaping generations, the journalist telling important stories and the development professional working to improve lives.
Each of these professional journeys forms part of the larger African story and carries experiences, lessons and achievements that can be valuable to those who come after.
AMIA seeks to ensure that such stories are not overlooked or lost, but documented as part of a growing record of African women and their contributions to society.
A Pan-African Platform
Although the 2026 edition is being hosted in Freetown, Sierra Leone, AMIA has a broader African outlook and is conceived as a platform capable of connecting accomplished women, institutions and professional communities across the continent.
Heroes Media Group sees Sierra Leone as an important operational base from which African stories can be documented, published and projected to wider audiences.
From this foundation, AMIA seeks to develop relationships with women, institutions, businesses, professional organisations and development partners across Africa.
The long-term vision is for AMIA to grow from a Sierra Leone-hosted awards platform into a recognised Pan-African community through which the stories, experiences and achievements of African women can be documented, shared and connected across borders.

The Larger Purpose
Ultimately, the African Matriarch Impact Awards is about more than awards.
It is about memory, documentation and the preservation of stories that form part of Africa’s contemporary history.
It is about documenting the professional journeys of African women while those journeys are still unfolding; recognising women who are working within institutions, building businesses, serving communities, shaping professions, creating opportunities and contributing to the development of their societies.
It is about telling their stories while they are here to tell them themselves, allowing their experiences and achievements to be documented in their own time and within the context in which they were lived.
And it is about creating a record that future generations can look back upon and say:
“These women were here. They served. They built. They contributed. And their stories were remembered.”
